WorkSafeBC 

All home sharing providers are required to have WorkSafeBC coverage. The cost is funded by CLBC. 

  • As an independent operator, if home sharing providers do not hire any of their own workers, they are eligible for Personal Optional Protection (POP) coverage. It is considered optional coverage by WorkSafe, however, it is a mandatory requirement as part of your home sharing agreement.  
  • Agencies cannot choose to report/remit for the home sharing provider as one of their workers. 
  • If a home sharing provider hires respite workers, they must apply for coverage as an employer to cover their worker(s).
