Role & Compensation
Home sharing providers receive compensation based on the established home sharing rate structure. The specific amount depends on the individual’s level of disability support needs, as determined by the Guide to Support Allocation (GSA) assessment tool. Payments come from both Community Living BC (CLBC) and individual contributions. Generally, individuals with higher support needs may receive higher compensation due to the increased level of care and support required. Home sharing providers operate as independent contractors, and this compensation is non-taxable.
Recruitment Process
Start by telling us a bit about yourself, your home, and your interest in becoming a home sharing provider.
Join an information session to learn about the process and ask questions.
Find and partner with a local community living agency in your region. The agency will support you throughout the process and guide you along your home sharing journey.
Participate in a pre-screening interview to talk about your experience, expectations, and readiness for the role. This is also an opportunity to ask questions and gain a better understanding of home sharing.
Confirm your interest by completing a formal application. You will be asked to submit references, a criminal record check, a medical report, and other required documents.
A home sharing coordinator will visit your home and interview you and your household members. The home will be assessed for safety, accessibility, and overall suitability to ensure it provides a welcoming and supportive environment.
Once your application is approved, your home sharing provider profile will be created and used to help identify potential matches with individuals seeking home sharing support.
If a potential match is found, your agency will work with you to explore compatibility with the individual and determine whether the arrangement is a good fit.
When a match is confirmed, you will move forward with contracting and onboarding. This ensures you have the tools, information, and support needed to begin your role with confidence.
Your community living agency and HSSSBC will offer ongoing support, ensuring you always have the resources and tools you need to succeed.
