Home Sharing Providers

Every day, home sharing providers open their hearts and homes, creating safe, supportive spaces where people with disabilities can truly thrive.

Responsibilities

As a home sharing provider, you help an adult with a developmental disability live safely and meaningfully. The type of support you provide will depend on the unique needs of the person.
Your role is to provide personalized care that promotes safety, growth, and well-being.

Daily Living

Helping with everyday tasks such as cooking, managing health needs, personal care, grooming and transportation as necessary.

Community Engagement

Supporting social and community participation.

Personal Growth

Encouraging personal goals, skill-building, and independence.

Advocacy & Communication

Supporting and encouraging individuals to advocate for their needs and preferences in their personal networks and with service providers.

Requirements

Minimum of 19 years of age

Satisfactory home study

Satisfactory criminal record check

First aid / CPR certificate

Physician’s certification of good health

Valid driver’s license

Role & Compensation

Home sharing providers receive compensation based on the established home sharing rate structure. The specific amount depends on the individual’s level of disability support needs, as determined by the Guide to Support Allocation (GSA) assessment tool. Payments come from both Community Living BC (CLBC) and individual contributions. Generally, individuals with higher support needs may receive higher compensation due to the increased level of care and support required. Home sharing providers operate as independent contractors, and this compensation is non-taxable.
