The Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction (SDPR) is implementing rate increases to the maximum shelter allowance. Community Living BC has worked with the SDPR to have the increase, for individuals under 65, flow through to home sharing as well. All eligible individuals on disability assistance, accessing CLBC funded home sharing arrangements, will receive the increase. When is This Happening? Effective August 2023 Who is Eligible for the Increase? Individuals receiving disability assistance, accessing a CLBC funded home sharing arrangement, will receive an increase to the maximum shelter allowance rate. How Much is The Increase? The increase is $125.00. For people who are under 65 years of age, this will increase CLBC’s standardized individual financial contribution rate from $716.13 to $841.13. What if I am Home Sharing Provider Supporting Someone 65+? CLBC will provide an equivalent increase to home sharing providers contracts for people who are over 65 years of age and receive OAS/GIS effective August 1, 2023. What if I Didn’t Get the Increase? If supported individuals do not have the right information in their “Shelter Information Form”, additional steps may be required. CLBC will be notifying agencies directly to let them know who needs an updated form, and the steps required. For home sharing providers, the process for updating contracts will take some time, and may differ among agencies. Increases will be retroactive. If you have questions regarding the timing and process for receiving this increase, please speak to your coordinating agency. If the rate increase is not reflected in the July 19th, 2023 cheque, (August benefit month), the payment amount will be adjusted to the start date on the Shelter Information Form (e.g. August 1, 2023). The Ministry is recommending that individuals who need to submit an updated Shelter Information Form do so as soon as possible. Questions about the maximum shelter rate increase or how to update a Shelter Information Form can be directed to the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction through My Self Serve or by phone at 1-866-866-0800. |
