Our Community

The Home Sharing Support Society BC is a provincial organization that works collaboratively with a cross-section of the home sharing community including:

  • Individuals
  • Families
  • Self-Advocates
  • Home Sharing Providers
  • Community Living Agencies
  • Key Community Partners
  • Funders

What We Do

As a Society We Focus on 3 Core Activities:

Research & Innovation

Behind the scenes, we compile research and develop innovation solutions to improve conditions in home sharing and to provide options for alternative models of inclusive housing. By identifying gaps, listening to the community, and analyzing data, we develop practical solutions that make a real difference. Our work helps shape better practices, inform policy, and create a stronger, more sustainable home sharing system for everyone involved.

Personalized Supports

We provide personalized support to the home sharing community by answering a wide range of questions, from how to start a home sharing arrangement, to navigating community supports and services, to understanding complex policies. Whether someone is new to home sharing or an experienced provider with questions or facing new challenges, we’re here to help them find clear, practical answers. Our team draws on experts in the field, sector expertise, internal expertise and lived experience to provide guidance, consultation and advice.

Capacity Building

We help build capacity in the home sharing community by offering tools, training, and resources that strengthen knowledge and confidence. Through workshops, partnerships, expert-led events, and practical learning opportunities, we support providers, individuals, and families to grow their skills, stay informed, and adapt to changing needs. Our goal is to empower the community to provide safe, respectful, and person-centred home sharing.

What We Are Not

We do not replace the role of the funders (CLBC) nor the agencies, we are additional support for the community that assists with communication and collaborative decision making that results in issues being resolved at a provincial level, when they arise.

Funding

The Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction (SDPR) focuses on providing British Columbians in need with a system of supports to help them achieve their social and economic potential.  The Ministry funds Community Living British Columbia (CLBC), a Crown Corporation, to fund and monitor services for people with disabilities across the province, including home sharing arrangements. Home sharing arrangements account for about 25% of CLBC’s support and services for people with disabilities.
